The Ganesha Purana was composed by sage Vyasa and is dedicated to the deity Lord Ganesha. It is classified as an Upapurana (minor Purana) rather than a Mahapurana (major Purana).
While Mahapuranas (Great Puranas) are primary, highly comprehensive ancient sacred texts and tales containing universal cosmology and mythology, Upapuranas serve later as supplementary writings.
Within the Ganesha Purana, readers can explore the epic stories of Lord Ganesha’s four major incarnations (Avataras) across the four cosmic ages of Yugas.
This is the story in the Satya Yuga where Lord Ganesha is incarnated as Mahotkata Vinayaka. In this form, he possesses ten arms, a radiant white complexion, rides a lion and descends to defeat the demon brothers Devantaka and Narantaka.
